The objective of these standards is to provide all of the recommended procedures for standardization.  These recommendations include case labeling, testing procedures, and identification of yarn properties. It is hoped that these recommendations will be accepted as standards for our industry.  If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact the SYFA office at kpettit@thesyfa.org

Feed Yarn Case Identification:  This is the standard for the information that should be displayed on a case coming from a filament yarn producer to an end user.  Click here to view the standard.
Textured Yarn Case Identification:  This is the standard for the information that should be displayed on a case being shipped to a customer. Click here to view the standard.
Designation of Textured Twist Direction:  This twist direction designation only applies to False Twist textured products. The twist direction of a false twist textured product should be designated by the letter " S ( clockwise twist )" or " Z ( counter-clockwise ) " for each end of the ply count. Click here to view the standard.
Test Method for Bulk Properties of Textured Yarns:  This method determines crimp contraction, crimp recovery, and skein shrinkage of textured yarn. It is applicable to all yarns which develop bulk when subjected to a dry heat treatment. This method applies to all yarn up to 400 denier (45 tx). Click here to view the standard.
Denier Designation:  The Technical Committee recommends a fully drawn nominal denier as the preferred method toward identifying textured yarns. Click here to view the standard.
Denier Test Method:  This standard details the procedure used to obtain the correct length of yarn, It is then weighed and converted into what is called denier. Click here to view the standard.
Measurement of Oil:  Oils on textured yarns have a tendency to migrate from outside to inside of textured packages. Click here to view the standard.
Entanglement Test:  To determine the level of and variation of entanglement in false-twist textured yarns - both in single and multiple yarn versions. Click here to view the standard.
Torque Test:  To determine the amount of torque in textured yarn in turns per inch. Click here to view the standard.
The Reiter -Scragg Package Performance Analyzer ( PPA ): is an instrument that makes a numerical assessment of potential package offtake performance. It does this by measuring yarn offtake tension on a running package for a specified speed and time and generates a Package Performance Factor ( PPF ) by analyzing the variability of the measured tensions. The attached chart is a very general chart that attempts to specify the best test conditions for testing various products. Actual test conditions should take into account the actual product offtake requirements at your customers location ( speed, balloon length, package size, etc...... ). Click here to view the standard.
Extension Force: This method covers the measurement of extension force of partially oriented filament yarn. It provides a rapid, precise estimate of the yarn orientation, by means of continuous drawing of the yarn while running between pairs of drafting rolls of different surfaces. This method applies to partially oriented filament yarns with deniers less than 300, but can be used for higher deniers if test condition changes are considered. Click here to view the standard.
POY Packages: Guidelines for Handling POY Packages with Assist or Auto-Method. Click here to view the standard.
POY Feed Yarns: Yarn and Package Standards for Poy Feed Yarns. Click here to view the standard.
