DAK Americas is announcing on its web site that it is increasing polyester staple fiber capacity at its Cooper River plant near Charleston, SC.The total expansion of 55 million lbs of capacity is over 2 phases and the 1st phase is scheduled to be completed by March/April 2015. Timing of the 2nd phase has not been identified.
AKC Note: DAK closed its Cape Fear, NC staple plant at the end of 2013 and added some capacity at Cooper River and also at a Mexican plant, but the unexpectedly strong U.S. demand for polyester staple through Q2 and Q3 has resulted in difficulty in meeting all orders and has led to this further increase at Cooper River. We have to assume that the market is indicating continued good demand and this is the response from DAK to market requirements.
